The September 1, 1983 issue of AVIATION CONSUMER magazine has an interesting article entitled "How Good Are the Teflon Additives?". The hype surrounding Slick-50 and Microlon is reviewed in detail. The case of the forced landing of a Vari-Eze at West Yellowstone, Wyoming on April 14, 1983 is discussed. The oil screen of the plane's O-200 engine was clogged with Teflon. The article concludes "... we're convinced that the benefits of Teflon are primarily psychological. ... [but] Placebos have been known to cure."
