In 1978, I rented a plane in Honolulu for three days (two nights). I looked in the phone book for FBO's and picked Isalnd Flight Center because they had a Piper 140. A check out ride was required which consisted of a local sight seeing tour (orientation) and two touch and goes at Ford Island, next to the Arizona, and a third landing back at Honolulu. A deposit was required for the three days of about half the expected time. There was a minimum daily flight time required, but since we went to the big island, that was no problem. I believe they requested that you not fly at night unless instrument rated. Also, life vests were required which the FBO supplied. The flight was very enjoyable with no major problems other that a nervous low time passenger (my wife).
