Regarding the state of health (or lack therof) of general aviation, consider the following report of sales of single-engine, two-seat trainers for the first month of this year, as reported in Aviation Week and Space Technology on March 19: Model Units Sold ----- ---------- Beech 77 Skipper 0 Cessna 152 (including F152, and Aerobat) 0 Piper Tomahawk 0 That's, right, absolutely no trainers sold in January! And the sales of bigger planes was hardly any better. (Even the omnipresent Skyhawk sold only 11 copies all month.) In 1980, I was deluged by requests for support from the Republican Party, who presumably got my name from some list of aircraft owners and/or pilots, and thus assumed that my political leanings were towards their end of the scale. I would suggest to them that they study up on the effects of their policies on this particular special interest group before they prepare their mailings this year! Jan Wolitzky, Murray Hill, NJ
