The phone system that is installed in commercial aircarriers is a little hard to install in private planes, I've never seen one but have heard that the big problem is that at night when you go into the booth and close the door, that the light is dim due to only running on 14 volts. (ha-yulk)

Phones in private planes have been around for some time. I flew a Cessna
421 in the late 70's that was equipped with a "Wolfsburg" (or something
like that) mobile phone. I also recall seeing a Mooney factory demonstrator
around that time with the same equipment in a single.
The 2 major draw backs were (are?):
1) $, a quick call home can eat up 20 bucks.
2) figuring out which ground station is in range and will remain in
range for the duration of the call.
