[net.aviation] David Clark vs Telex headsets

first line
I have just recently purchased a David Clark headset
and find it to be very comfortable and the noise reduction
qualities excellent. I have tried a Telex headset once
and found it to have little to no noise reduction qualities
at all. In some ways I feel it is worse than no headset at all
as you would be under the illusion that your hearing is being
protected when in fact it is not. The noise reduction on the DC
is actually rated by some independant organization. The noise reduction
on the Telex is not rated (probably because there isn't any). The Telex
headset also looked more flimsy than the DC and did not look as if it
would last as long. The DC is assembled more with nuts and bolts
rather than glue allowing individual parts to be replaced.
This did not appear to be the case with the Telex.
My DC with mike (10-30 I think) was $185 CND and the Telex was
about $40 cheaper The $40 seemed like a small price to pay to save my hearing
given the apparent difference in quality. In short Buy David Clark!

I have just become a pilot and do not have many hours of experience
but that is my opinion for what its worth.
