From: Carl D. Howe <cdh@BBNCCX.ARPA> A friend of mine and I built and now fly a Vector 637 ultralight. We are currently basing the plane in Rhode Island at a very small airport that is being sold. We are looking for a new airport to base our plane in the rural Boston area, preferably to the north (e.g. Stowe, Tewksbury, Nashua, NH, etc.) Does anyone have any recommendations of airports in the area that LIKE ultralights? It's not like my friend and I are brain-damaged crazoids (although alot of airport managers consider you such as soon as you mention the fact that you fly an ultralight). I am licensed and have 150+ hours in Cessnas and Pipers; my friend has taken the private pilot training through solo and dual cross-country. Both of us are prudent and cautious pilots and make every effort to conform to local practices regarding curfews, landing patterns, etc. Along similar lines, does anyone have any recommendations of airports to fly an ultralight to for a nice little cross-country?. I've heard Plum Island is nice and has a lot of ultralight activity. Again, most airports give ultralights a reception like, "Well, it's not illegal for you to land here, but we'd appreciate it if you never came back." Another random question about strange airports: a lot of places have different patterns for ultralights than for normal small planes; however, I haven't seen such things published like they do in the AIM for regular planes. Any suggestions of how to find such things out in advance, short of calling the airport manager for every airport you want to fly to? Thanks for your comments, Carl
