Headsets don't interact well with hoods. What do you headset wearers use for IFR training? Just to make it harder, I wear glasses.

I recently finished my IFR training for the rating, and I concur that headphones, the hood, and eyeglasses don't mix well. I once landed at Pueblo after an ILS practice approach, and wondered why the tower didn't tell me to contact ground control; I finally realized that I had (unconsciously) taken off the headset so that I could take off the hood before landing. After all that awful hood-time, I think I'll almost be relieved to get some actual IMC.

My IFR hood is a Francis, the short black one that doesn't go over the head, but only on the face, with an elastic strap around the head just above the ears. My headset is a Telex Pro V. It does not share any head real estate with the hood, but has to be removed while the hood is put on or off. Dave Levenson AT&T-ISL Holmdel

I wear a headset (I own a Telex; have used a Dave Clark also),
occasionally wear glasses when I fly (wire-rimmed "aviator-
type"), and am work on my instrument ticket. I use one of the
small white plastic hoods with elastic that goes 'round the head,
the headset, everything -- most important, though, it goes on
OVER the headset. It's very comfortable, light weight, and does
indeed restrict the field of vision.
I have noticed that in Cessnas, anyway, putting a folded-up map
on the pilot's side of the windshield wrap-around is necessary to
fully block out the left corner of my vision.
No, this hood does NOT pivot (as some of the larger, plastic
adjustable headband types do). What do you do at DH? You either
just look up, or pull off the hood and toss it at your instructor!
