[net.aviation] Headsets & View-Limiting Devices

After years of trying to balance glasses, headset, and hood on my
head, I can heartily recommend "IFR Foggles" in place of the latter.
Foggles, available from all of the mail-order catalogs I've gotten and
most of the FBO's I've visited, are similar to certain kinds of safety
glasses, but they're cloudy except for a small window in the bottom of
each "lens". They cost around $12, come in yellow or white, and fit
comfortably and securely over my eyeglasses and under my Telex DBM-1000.
They do a real good job of restricting vision to just the panel, and
are about a thousand times more convenient than any hood I've worn
(they fit neatly in the seat-back pocket or glove compartment). You
also don't look nearly as dumb wearing them.
