Come on now....I thought most pilots had figured out that airplanes cost more to run than just gas! How 'bout tie-down? Annuals? 100 hours or progressives? (those are only for commercial operations? you mean you run your plane more than 100 hours without pulling off the inspection plates and taking a look? or change the oil? did you ever look REAL careful around the engine and other places for "inspect every 50/100 hours" placards? Oh, sorry, you must be a A&P, and do it yourself). How 'bout insurance? How 'bout major maintenace fund (that purring engine just *might* swallow a rod 400 hours before major [in that case, crash the sucker, or else the insurance won't pay for it]). How 'bout week-to-week minor avionics bills? Tires? Pitot/static inspections? Transponder inspections? Yeah, I agree -- what do the engine manufacturers know about how long their engines will last. Run that sucker until it starts to sound bad then slap another on. Check the compression? That's sissy stuff! Next thing you know, you'll be doing engine oil analysis every 50 hours to see if things are breaking down inside -- and wasting $10-20 each time! Gads...I'll bet I could fly a T210 for $30/hour!
